How to Play Five Card Draw

Five card draw is one of the oldest poker games played in America. It uses a combination of chance, skill, and psychology that has long kept it a favorite among poker players. While Texas holdem is at the moment more popular, there are still plenty of people who play poker using five card draw. In fact many poker purists claim that five card draw is perhaps the ultimate poker game because of its use of the previously mentioned elements.

The great thing about five card draw is that it is an easy poker game to learn. Each player begins playing by paying an ante into the pot. Once the ante has been paid the dealer deals each player five cards. Once each player has five cards they take a look at their hand and estimate which hand they have the best chance of getting. At this point another round of betting occurs. After betting each player chooses which cards to throw into the discard pile in an attempt to get better cards the next deal.

Once each player has put their cards into the discard pile the dealer deals each player any number of cards so that each player once again has five cards in their hand. Once again another round of betting occurs, however this is the final round of betting and it can last a while as players may continue to raise the bet in hopes of forcing people to fold. Once the final bet has been called without a raise the players reveal their cards and the best hand wins the pot. The round of poker then begins again anew.
